When she first arrived in SICU they told the family that she was the sickest patient on the floor. She had two nurses hopping round the clock. Since being upgraded to only one nurse, she is now competing with several other patients for who is the worst off. That can't be a coveted position to be in.
The SICU is the most high-tech, comprehensive floor in the hospital. They take all the patients who come out is surgery in critical condition. This includes transplants, cardiac, and trauma patients. You name it, they deal with it. We are comforted to know that Elaine has the best of the best working on her.
