After the Pacemaker Operation

Mom didn't seemed bothered today at all about her new incision. Although, her tailbone was a source of aggravation after having to lay on an operating table for several hours. She has one restriction after surgery. Her left arm is tied to the side of her bed as a reminder to not lift her arm. Apparently it takes at least twenty-four hours before the pacemaker is fully situated. Any big movements with her arm (like lifting it up to her head) could knock wires loose and require them to operate again. Nobody wants that.

My dad told me that this morning they brought in some sort of computer equipment and "talked" to mom's pacemaker. The doctors are able to see the what work the pacemaker has recorded and make sure it is functioning properly. His understanding was that once she is out of the hospital and has resumed normal life she will need to have her pacemaker checked once or twice a year for upkeep.
