Progressing

Elaine had another good night last night. The nurse reported that her heart was beating along steady all night without a problem. They will probably still put a permanent pacemaker in just in case it goes a little crazy again.

They are going to try to get her off the continuous dialysis pump today. That is the last big obstacle to get over before she can leave SICU. Hopefully thing go well as she becomes completely dependent on her own body. They will continue to monitor her very closely and she will only leave if she is stable enough. After SICU, she will probably be transferred to the cardiovascular rehab unit in this hospital.

They are concerned about her right arm. It is very weak and she has only a little movement in it. They will work to strengthen it when physical therapy and occupational therapy come in.

On a happy note, she stood up with support twice yesterday. They are really working her to getting going again.

The hardest part is when she wants us to move her around in bed to be more comfortable. She still has so many tubes and monitors covering her body that we can't move her much. Only the medical staff can move her. I don't think she fully realizes everything that is still going on with her body. She wants to go home so badly. This is very frustrating for her.

Lynn told me today that it reminded him of our relationship with Heavenly Father. Many times we want something that Heavenly Father knows is not in our best interest. He sees the whole picture when we only see what is in front of us. I wonder if Heavenly Father is sad when sometimes He answers "No" or even when He answers "Not yet". I know Heavenly Father will always do whatever is right. He is in total control.

This experience has been one of stress and exhaustion but, it has also strengthened our bonds as a family and with our Lord. There are so many lessons to be learned from these experiences.
